Cycling in Washington

One of my favorite trails to ride on is the Burke-Gillman Trail. This trail links to many other trails as well as continues to expand. Most of the trail is paved. It runs from Fremont Cut in Seattle to a small area in Woodinville where it joins the Sammamish River Trail. When I lived in Bothell, I’d step out of the elevator with my bike and hop on the trail. Like many other cyclists, I’d stop for lunch at Redhook Brewery in Woodinville (no longer open). Unlike some cyclists, I just ride and not pay attention how far I’ve gone. It’s fairly easy to go from one trail to the next then return. However, there was a time when I realized I traveled 23 miles before turning around. The last few miles back uphill wasn’t fun.

Seattle to Portland ride is a famous yearly event. At one point I thought about taking on this 203 mile challenge with a 5,147 vertical incline. I have many friends who do this trip on a yearly event. Some even make this trek in one day. STP is one of the 10 most popular bicycle rides in the country. This ride started in 1979.

This year due to Covid-19, I’ve avoided riding my bike as the trails are quite full. This next year, I plan to buy a new Cannondale bike. I haven’t decided on which model. I do like going off a paved trail. I am not planning to buy an electric bike. Suggestions on which one I should get? Of course, color is important to me.
